1- PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS STATE PARK
Truly scenic! The magnificent mountain landscapes of this park feature tens of thousands of feet of Lake Superior coastline, and the majority of the tent campsites are situated high up in the mountains. The magnificent sights, rivers, and Lake Superior itself draw campers here. If you want to “rough it,” there are 63 primitive country campsites located off the main path here. Don’t forget to get a park map so that you can find your way around.
2- WARREN DUNES STATE PARK
Are you into RVing or tent camping? Doesn’t matter. This place has both. Every year, over one million visitors come to Warren Dunes State Park, and with good reason. It is, without a doubt, one of the greatest spots to tent camp in Michigan. The state park includes two campgrounds: one contemporary with RV connections and modern toilets and one semi-modern with primitive campsites better suited for tents and a large group camping area. The beach is only a short walk away from all of the campsites. Keep in mind that Warren Dunes is one of Michigan’s most popular campgrounds, so plan ahead of time for the summer months. Do not forget to climb the Tower Hill dune, which rises 260 feet above the lakeside and provides campers with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, or simply rest on the soft sand and soak up the sunlight.
3- TAHQUAMENON FALLS STATE PARK
This state park is the crowning glory of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Known for its incredible and picturesque waterfalls, hundreds of people visit each year only to see the falls, and many more remain to camp near the falls. The Lower Falls Campground, the first of the state park’s two campgrounds, is located along the Tahquamenon River near the lower falls. It is the contemporary one of the two, with showers, flush toilets, water supply, and RV connections. The Tahquamenon Falls Rivermouth Unit is even more primitive and secluded.
4- WILDERNESS STATE PARK
Do you want to get rid of the stress of your city? Explore 10,500 acres of campsite in Northwest Michigan and engage in a variety of recreational trekking, kayaking, and bicycling. Enjoy 26 miles of stunning Lake Michigan beachfront and breathtaking sunsets over clean water. Wilderness State Park has 250 campsites in a single big campground. Most have complete RV connections, but there are a few basic walk-in tent sites as well. There are also a few camping cottages and primitive bunkhouses provided.
5- LUDINGTON STATE PARK
Get ready and hop on your bike and head to the park’s 18-mile path for up-close experiences with animals. Head to this Northwest Michigan park to pitch a tent and sail over the beautiful Lake Michigan or relax on the sandy shores of Hamlin Lake. Ludington State Park is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake. Throughout the summer, it has miles of sandy coastline with lots of spots to swim and enjoy activities. Metal detecting is one of the hobbies advised by local campers. Explore the dunes for hidden treasures while breathing in the smell of clean waters.
