TOP 5 CAMPING SPOTS IN COLORADO

Few states can match Colorado when it comes to natural beauty and fantastic adventure attractions. There’s a lot to see and do in Colorado, from the spectacular panoramas of Rocky Mountain National Park to the rocky peaks of Garden of the Gods and the gorgeous views along the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway. Spending a few nights camping beneath the stars is one of the greatest ways to enjoy these landscapes. If that seems like your type of adventure, and you need help deciding where to pitch your tent, we’re here to help. These are our favorite camping spots in Colorado when we visit the state.

  1. PİÑON FLATS CAMPGROUND

Let’s drive to the Great Sand Dunes National Park in the state’s south for such a unique camping experience. This is a site that is far more similar to the Sahara than the Rocky Mountains, with soaring dunes in place of snow capped peaks. Piñon Flats is the finest spot to camp inside this spectacular environment, and it gives access to surrounding hiking paths that swirl over and around dunes that may reach heights of 700 feet. And if you want to get an adrenaline boost while you’re out there, you can even try sandboarding within the site. You can be sure it will be a great fun carving your way down in a gorgeous dune.

  1. THE MAROON BELLS

The Maroon Bells are without a doubt one of Colorado’s greatest iconic landmarks. This site, which consists of a pair of 14,000-foot summits that are among the most photographed peaks in all of North America, provides spectacular vistas all year. Backpackers and vehicle campers will discover three campsites in the mountain’s foot, all of which gives access to this stunning wilderness environment, which includes the beautiful Maroon Lake. You just cannot go wrong here, whether you stay at the Silver Bar, Silver Bell, or Silver Queen campgrounds. They are all equally stunning and must-see destinations for campers.

  1. BEAR LAKE CAMPGROUND

Bear Lake is another spectacular campground within Rocky Mountain National Park that is guaranteed to satisfy outdoor lovers. This place is ideal for fishing enthusiasts seeking Colorado trout. The neighboring Cucharas river is a great choice, for both amateur and professional fly-fishers who want to spend time on the water. This campsite is also easily accessible through the 14-mile Indian Creek Trail, which is not only available to walkers and mountain cyclists but also to mountain vans and horses.

  1. OH BE JOYFUL CAMPGROUND

The Oh Be Joyful campground, located not far from Crested Butte, not only has a nice name, but it’s also a fantastic place. The camping location provides an entrance into the vast Raggeds Wilderness. This national forest covers more than 65,000 acres and ranges in height from 7,000 to 13,000 feet. In addition to taking in the breathtaking vistas of the towering mountains that rule the horizon, campers may also walk, fish, or mountain bike within the Raggeds. While you’re in the region, stop to visit Crested Butte for a tiny taste of civilization in the midst of this isolated setting. There are several wonderful restaurants, bars, and stores to visit, all of which ooze hillside charm.

  1. MORAINE PARK CAMPGROUND

The National Park of Rocky Mountain has five excellent campsites to stay, but Moraine Park is by far our favorite choice. The location not only offers a fantastic view of the beautiful countryside for which the park is known, but campers may also observe wildlife. The sharp-eyed tourists can often observe these species traveling in their native environment with a black bear, moose, mount lion, mount sheep and elk. At best, the site is accessible all over the year so that you can visit here anytime you want.
